Over the last decade, the quantum shift in the art world's focus to the art of the East (Asia) from the established art of the West is not just based upon the growing art demand from domestic consumers in the region, but rather to an awakening of the appreciation of the "freshness", originality and competence of artworks being produced in Asia.

China and India have taken centre stage over this time, particularly in the international auction environment, where artworks by both established and contemporary artists are gaining appreciation and demanding prices that rival or even surpass the artworks being produced by Western artists.

However, as the art world is now beginning to focus more on Asia, fine, original and exciting works from Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand are being viewed, appreciated and reappraised by a larger international audience.

These South East Asian countries each have a long and unique history that has produced their own individual cultural heritage. Linked by their geographic proximity (and more recently by the era of modern communication), yet producing an identifiable and diverse body of work that will come to rival the best from China, India and the world as a whole, the contemporary art of South East Asia is on the verge of discovery.
