Waterlilies (SLR dated verso 2000), 60cm x 76cm, oil on canvas
by Boonchoo Chawana
by Boonchoo Chawana
Boonchoo Chawana is an elder statesman of Thai realist art. He originally worked by copying photographs onto canvas and them became more interested in the actual colour, texture and emotion of what he was looking at, that photography just didn't seem to capture.
Chawana's works seldom appear on the market and are characterised by a strong romantic element that pervades his detailed work of Thai flora. There is a movement from within the canvas from hyper-realism of say a lotus flower to the more abstract and hinted at surrounding foliage or landscape.
All of Chawana's works capture the beauty of nature and all are highly competent and original.
